How CBD Can Help You With Recovery, Stress, and Performance

Over the years, cannabidiol (CBD) has grown in popularity throughout the U.S. in use for anxiety, chronic pain, and even seizures. Though research had just begun in the field, the benefits of CBD have already been prevalent in its use. At Performa, we see CBD as the solution for high performance athletes and entrepreneurs whose work life balance can sometimes be tough to handle and where physical and mental strength is expected from them everyday. For most people, CBD can be scary, because of its association to marijuana or they are not familiar with the product. Throughout this article, we will discuss Performa’s use of broad spectrum CBD, the benefits and research behind CBD specifically for athletes, and how Performa’s founder decided to start his company after his numerous health issues as a college athlete.

“In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.” World Health Organization

According to Medium, there are three types of CBD - full spectrum, isolate and broad spectrum. Broad spectrum CBD, unlike its counterparts, offers the benefits of the Cannabis plant without the risk of psychoactive effects. THC has been removed, but compounds of the Cannabis plant are preserved. Medium (Cardena, 2019) lists the benefits of broad spectrum CBD  as:

  • Individuals with conditions that CBD isolate alone could not alleviate
  • Individuals with sensitivity to THC
  • Individuals living in states that have strict THC-laws
  • First-time users that are hesitant about THC

With zero percent THC, Performa’s broad spectrum CBD is safe to use for people that do not want to experience a “high” or are regularly drug tested.

Research conducted by Harvard University also identifies CBD as a solution for treating anxiety, insomnia and chronic pain. Commonly used by individuals who have trouble sleeping, research additionally shows CBD lowering inflammation and neuropathic pain. For athletes where injuries are common and not unheard of, CBD provides a natural solution to allow them to perform better and through the pain they may be experiencing. In the U.K., a study found that 78% to 80% of professional rugby players used CBD to help with sleep or for pain and recovery (Kasper et al., 2020). High performance athletes are beginning to turn to CBD when it comes to pain management and an industry Performa has penetrated with their zero THC product.

Brandon In, the founder of Performa, was awarded a golf scholarship to California Polytechnic State University. The following year, playing in the U.S. Amateur qualifier, he hit a tee shot and fell to his knees. “I felt an extremely sharp pain in my lower back, I tried to get up and was struggling to walk. Months went by of physical therapy and alternative medicines and ultimately after no improvement I had to proceed with a spinal infusion,” said Brandon In. During his recovery, Brandon discovered CBD, and along with it products that had high amounts of THC. As a competitive athlete, Brandon needed CBD for his pain, but also could not take THC during competitions. He created Performa broad spectrum CBD for competitive athletes just like him and brought industry leading products that high performance individuals can count on.

We understand using a new product like CBD can raise a lot of questions and we encourage our consumers to conduct their own research on broad spectrum CBD, so they can feel secure using our products. We hope our research has helped you learn more about the benefits of CBD and Performa’s mission in improving the physical and mental wellbeing of our customers. Please contact us for further questions and we will be happy to assist.
